North
ENIWETOK LOOKING NORTH

Photo #1 I wish I could identify the shot for you but I'd only be guessing. If I had to guess, however it would be a tower shot at Engibe.

Oak Shot
HARDTACK OAK

Photo #2 The mushroom cloud from the Hardtack Oak barge shot.

Kaiser Barge
KAISER CONCRETE BARGE

Photo #3 could have been taken from Parry Island. The shot probably occurred at Engibe or Aomon. Do you recognize the Kaiser concrete barge in the forground? I don't know if you know the story connected to the barges but they were built of reinforced concrete by Kaiser (a cement producing company on the west coast) and towed to various sites toward the end of the war. I doubt that very many were made. This one was being towed into the lagoon and got hung up on a large coral head and was abandoned. I'm sure, even at the time I was there, that it was permanently attached to the coral head due to coral growth. We used it for dynamite storage until we built an on-site (Parry Island) bunker.

Umbrella
HARDTACK UMBRELLA

Photo #4 is pretty dramatic. It'sthe Hardtack Umbrella underwater shot. The ship in the foreground may be one of the two old Liberty ship drones that came through Eniwetok. One was painted bright orange and the other bright yellow (If I remember correctly).

H&N Beach Club
H&N BEACH CLUB

Photo #5 was taken at one of the H&N Beach Clubs. I'm at the far right of the picture (dark glasses) and holding a can of beer.

Japtan
JAPTAN

Photo #6 is Japtan near the boat ramp. The Navy BiMed Unit has left and it is now a recreation island. Note the dog runs still standing. This photo was probably taken in 1956 or 57.

Parry Island
PARRY

Photo #7 shows a view of Parry Island toward the south end. You may remember the power house toward the right and the IBM computer building at the left. If you look closely to the right of the power house you'll see the original man made dock wher we were decontaminated (see reference in my story). That's me with the hole in my pants.

Hawaiian Band
HAWAIIAN BAND

Photo #8 is of a group of H&N personnel that formed an Hawaiian band. They were as good as any professional group.
