The Nickajack
NICKAJACK TRAIL AT LOW TIDE
VIEWED FROM JAPTAN'S JUNGLE
In Dick Dunlap's story The Nickajack Trail the wreck was showing some signs of weakness and the deck was holding the stern. Notice here, she is bending and twisting. Later, in 1958, the rear third had dropped into the deep. [Picture is from Stan Sigler.]

Enewetok Post Exhange
THE PX
I can remember tables set up under the palms, where you could read your mail and drink a Coke. I wrote letters here too on those tables. Handy, near the Post Office. There was a Barber Shop just to the left of the PX entrance. [Pic also from Sigler. Stan said he found these pictures for sale in the PX. He sent me many more. I will publish most of them in the Wetokian.]

JAPTAN ECOLOGICAL SIGN
At this time, none of these men are known. I hope someone will remember this picture and send in a caption, with some names. Can you make out all of the words behind the men? [Another Sigler donation. Thanks Stan!]
USCG
THE COAST GUARD LORAN STATION
These men had a wonderful place to work. They worked hard to keep everything shipshape. This was the only place on the island where there was anything resembling grass. Inside there was an aquarium, clean and neat with seawater pumped in from the lagoon. All transmitting equipment and furnishings were near immaculate. I don't remember why I visited there. [Sigler's pic.]

LCM
LCM UNLOADING PICNIC PARTY AT JAPTAN ISLAND
I recall the pleasant rumble the engine exaust made. The exaust outlets were near the water line and each wave would wash up over them changing the sound in a faltering rhythm. These boats were the workhorses of the Atoll. Many Japtan outings started with this boat-ride. Remember?
