4930HQ
4930th HEADQUARTERS BUILDING ( # 90 ).
This wing of the building contained the weather station. That central entry is the door to the weather station. The young palms planted just outside each window of the station, reminds me of a story concerning George Wilson's landscaping project. [Stan Sigler's picture]

B-29
B-29 WEATHER PLANE AND CREW
Some time in the spring during CASTLE 1954, on the ramp at Eniwetok. Those men to the left of the nose wheels are the ground maintenance crew and are unknown at this time. Those to the right of the nose wheels are: John R. Dipenbrock (Commander) Larry Wener (Co-pilot) Paul Coscarelli (Navigator) Jerry Uehara (Navigator) Max Crowder (Weather Observer) Charlie Goins (Engineer) George Leubecker (Engineer) Joe Lariviere (Radio Operator) Bernie Wynn (Radio Operator) Dave Yap (Dropsonde Operator) Francis McGeehan (Crew Chief). This picture is from Sally Uehara. (see her mail in the Mail Box). This crew flew into CASTLE mushrooms. Weather missions?

Cattle Car
ISLAND SHUTTLE
The shuttle bus we had during IVY ( 1952 ) was just a typical bus. I don't remember riding the Cattle Car. It may have replaced our bus when it was rolled over (and over) by severe prop wash. Duffy's Tavern was directly in line with our tent row ( "L" ) . Great hangout just before the movies. Some never made it to the movies. [From Sigler]
Company Street
ENIWETOK'S HAPPY CAMP GROUNDS
There is a particular peculiar "Pure Army" smell inside a tent in the tropical Sun. We grew accustomed to it, but any time I am around a Tarpaulin in the Sun, I am reminded of our little "rock" and trying to get some sleep after midnight shift. [Sigler's pic.]

Japtan Island
JAPTAN PALMS
Some of our readers may remember this coral gravel road that ran parallel to the beach on the lagoon side. Ate many good rare steaks here. Some had just a sprinkling of sand. [A Stan Sigler picture]
