I publish a newsletter for a small group of Air Force Weather Men that were with me during and after Project IVY at Eniwetok.

Almost two years ago, I started looking through the white pages on the net for these weather men. There were some I couldn't find and sometimes I talked to widows. Some of these that I did find knew of the location of others and some had copies of old orders that listed still more. Now we have thirty four on the mailing list and we call and write to each other on a more or less regular basis. Our little paper is called THE WETOKIAN. Many send in articles and news and info about their lives and such. The paper is trying to be a quarterly. So far, we have enough incoming info to accomplish that.

Last October about half of the group managed to make it to a GRAND IVY REUNION in Kansas City, MO. Forty five years gone by and we had much to discuss. In May of 2000, we plan to meet again near DC.

I was back on Wetok in 1958 for HARDTACK and watched all the Wetok shots and some at Bikini. I believe I have witnessed 25 shots in all. Some close, some far. A couple under water and one almost in space, (Redstone rocket lifted that one). Oak was the most impressive. It was big and very hot. That was the only time we were required to wear coveralls.

I missed meeting Vince Paynter by about two months at Wetok. He left in Sep 51 and I arrived in Nov. He is the most recent member of our little weather group and he just received THE WETOKIAN for the first time. So in our group, we have weather people mostly from IVY but some have been present for CASTLE, some for REDWING, UPSHOT-KNOTHOLE, HARDTACK, and maybe others. I think that once anyone had that top-secret clearance, It saved a world of paperwork and time and trouble to earmark them for another operation. We have three members that were in CASTLE and one of those was directly involved in the fallout plume from the BRAVO runaway shot.

Again, thank you much for your email. Hope you enjoy THE WETOKIAN.
