This is my dad. He served aboard the USS Badoeng Strait from 1954 to 1957
when she was de-commissioned at Bremerton in May. This was his first duty
following boot. Edmund L. Taylor, Dad was BM in the 3rd Division: 3rd
Section. When he wasn't piping on and off the ship he was at the helm, he
says.
I remember setting up a beer hall on Bikini, beer and hotdogs were
10 cents and we used money that was like monopoly money. I remember a
marine going swimming, dad pauses as he says "that was a bad thing." I made
out the watch list and duty roster for 3rd division. I was in charge of
Afterofficers Country.
I remember BM 1class Warlattner, I think that is how
it was spelled. He was my next in command over me. Yea, I also remember
Ensign Stubs who was officer over us. I remember the blasts that would
almost stand the ship on her end. That photo of the deck being washed looks
like me.
I'd like to hear from any of the guys that are still here. I knew
a bunch of the guys because I took alot of them to shore when I was on
launch duty. The blasts were pretty intense. I don't remember to much, but
if I saw some of there pictures I might remember.
Thank you
