I was on the Boxer as part of the Marine Corps Detachment. Duty was tedious and mundane as anyone aboard at that time would agree.

Untill they started lighting up those "special weapons" and then life changed.......

We had high altitude, sub-surface,and ground level demo's!!!! I recall several naval personell being sent back, but no one of the Marine Det.

As for duty, routine guard duty paint chipping etc. and the usual hurry up and wait.

I will never forget my impression when the high altitude shot went off and at night to boot. I really thought they overdid it and blew a hole in the atmosphere!

Well, that was a long time ago 1958 as I recall, and if I have suffered any adverse effects, I don't know it.

I really would like to know how much of a dose I took so would appreciate any info on how to find out.

Yours Truly,
