Subject: Operation Castle
Keith,
I was a member of Joint Task Force 7 during Operation Castle.
I was
stationed at Eniwetok but spent some time in the Bikini Atoll during
some ot the tests including Bravo shot. I was on the USS Estes when the
Bravo test was made. I was in the Army Signal Corps and was working in
ship to shore communications. After the shot the wind changed and the
Estes sailed all the way back to Eniwetok. I received quite a bit of
radiation from the blast and as a result the ball joints in my hips have
deteoriated and I have had to use a cane for several years.
