Hello,
I am replying to your web page on the entries for Operation Dominic.
I was stationed with the Air Force and was with the communications center. I was sent to the aircraft carrier postioned outside the island and was there during and for a short time after the test. I remember the test and the people telling us to cover our heads and not to look up until we were "cleared" to look.
The first thing that I saw when I looked up was the mushroom cloud and after the bomb went off, I remember feeling the heat and the after shock. The light was very bright and as you stated, it was bright enough to see your bones, but I do not remember it being that way. I was only 20 years old at the time.
I was wondering if you have heard from any of the other communications people that were not directly involved with the test and any side effects that they may have incurred from being in the area. I believe that we were told that we were about 20 miles from the actual detonation when it occurred.
The only thing that has happened to me since that time is that my teeth have been bad, but that may have been from my not brushing them as much as I was supposed to. I have had none of the symptoms that some of the people have stated in their remarks.
My eysight is about 20-100 at the time and I must wear eyeglasses.
I would like to hear from anyone that was there at that time
Leland G. Schroeder
