Subject: Johnson Island
I was on the USS Iwo Jima at Johnson Island in 1962. I can't remember how many times we went out to Johnson Island, I think it was four or five. I sure remember the night we laid on the
flight deck with those dark goggles on and they lit up the sky with the big one. Since then, when everyone "oohs and awes" at a 4th of July Fireworks show, I just smile and think to myself, "you guys ain't seen nothin".
