My name is Melvin Mcpherson, AE flight electrician and crew member. We also flew the 800 mile perimeter around Christmas and Johnson during the tests. We did experience 3 aloft detonations and the other were ground blasts. I flew as radar and ECM operator.

We did however experience losing our starboard engine during our night patrol approximately 200 miles from the island but managed to save the kva generator and fire up the 2 j4's and came home a little hot. It was worth a few days in Hawaii.

After the Mahatma nuclear test, our crew was deployed to Johnson Island for the firing of the Thor missile. We were to fly pod recovery. As we cozied down on the ship in the harbor during the initial firing, we heard the explosion and debris hitting the ship. Needless to say NO POD RECOVERY. After putting orndinance tape on our plane we then left for Hawaii for our deployment back to San Francisco.

To all the guys from Texas and from California that made up our squadron, let me know if your still around.
