McMullin Roger (passed away 2006) Portland, Oregon M-Div.. 61-64

Roger McMullin was on the USS Princeton LPH-5

From the Board of Directors

We were all saddened by the passing of our shipmate and friend Roger McMullin. (Oct 11th 2006 ) He will be missed by us all.

When Roger attended his first reunion in Las Vegas in 1996 he could not believe how many were in attendance. At that time he volunteered to help out anytime we needed help. And that came to pass.

He became our roster man, memorabilia man, and received dues from shipmates. He recorded all new shipmates and dues paid, sending this information via e-mail on to all others involved in keeping records. He cataloged all of our memorabilia, entering it in nice folders for display at all reunions. Many shipmates have remarked on what an excellent job he did with our memorabilia.

Roger volunteered after the Norfolk reunion to set up the reunion in Portland. He and the reunion committee, Kathy Alder and Ron Hoak did a great job in setting up this reunion. Even with failing health Roger made sure that this would be a great reunion. He left the hospital to attend the banquet with his family. This was total dedication.

We were lucky to have such a man in our organization. He will be sadly missed.

May God bless his family at this sad time.

Keith:

I was on board the U.S.S. Princeton in 1962 for Operation Dominic. I have read some of the letters that you have received from some of my shipmates. I can't add much to what they have said as I think I only saw one and it bothered me enough that I didn't want to go out and see anymore.

Out on deck you could see the shadow of the bone in your arm and see that it is almost like daylight in the middle of the night. I remember vividly seeing the shock wave coming across the water and they said we were safe from radiation.

I am now involved in The U.S.S. Princeton Veterans Inc. and we have a web site (www.ussprinceton.com). I would be very interested in hearing from our shipmates who have had any repercussions from the atomic tests.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Keith for all the time , money, and effort in your web site. I will have very prominent link to your web site Keith.
