Hey Keith,
I was stationed in G2 at the Agressor Army Headquarters at Fort Riley,
Kansas and then sent to Nevada for the (Shot Simon) test, 04/25/53.
I was told we were 2,000 feet from GZ. I was lying as far down in a trench as I could get with my arm across my eyes. The blast was so bright I could see the bones in my arm. After the second pressure wave we got out of the trenches and walked toward GZ. I remember the very bright light. The surrounding mountains looked like they were covered with
aluminum foil. The waves in the trench were very noticeable and I was surprised that the trench did not collapse. There were dead rabbits and burned sheep around us. Also some turned over vehicles after we walked forward.
. After the test I went on
pass to Las Vegas for one night and then back to Kansas.
