Operation Hardtack

My name is Donald J. Koestler (aka Sweats) I served on the USS Monticello. I was a radarman and worked in the radar shack.

I think I remember 13 tests in the Marshall Islands at Eniwetok Atoll. I remember the Light, the Heat and the Shockwaves. Beautiful but deadly.

I remember having to take 7 or 8 showers one after the other until the dosimeter registered zero.

Some of my shipmates were, Leroy Meir, Benny Beneshunas, Glen Hoekstra.
