I am L/cpl Tim R. Jones V-2 division, Tsgt USAF retired, raised up in Cottage Grove Ore. I joined the Marines in 1960
and was stationed aboard the USS Princeton LPH-5 from Nov 1962 to Oct 1963. I served aboard the USS Princeton LPH-5 during the testing off Johnston
Island during at least 5 tests. The only fun thing that I can recall is we were on the flight deck waiting for a blast and the count down got down to 5 and they announced take cover
take cover this is not a drill. I didn't know people could run that fast for
in an instant the flight deck was clear. A rocket I was told went off coarse
but now AEC states it malfunctioned on the island.
One shot ignited the gases in the upper atmosphere and the sky looked a
prism or a big hunk of crystal.
So far I or my family have not shown any medical problems from the tests.
I am in contact with three other Marines from V-2 div. and they too
haven't had any health problems.
