Hi Keith
I served in the 4951st and went TDY from Eniwetok to Bikini in May of 58. I don't remember the number of shots I
saw. |

I had goggles that were so dark you could look at the blast. You could see the
bright flash, then the wait for the shock wave to come. For one test we had to leave the island. We were transported out to the USS Boxer for
that shot.
| I was an aircraft mechanic. In the picture with the L-20, I am the 2nd from the left in the front row. We also had to park incoming aircraft. One day a plane came in and as I checked it with the Geiger counter its reading was too high. We had to take it to the wash rack and scrub it down
before the crew could get off. Then we had to discard our clothes and
shower. We were given new clothes and a new dose meter. | Photos from Marty Fox.

We closed Bikini down and went back to Eniwetok. I left the rock in April of 1959. I have enclosed some pictures.
