I participated in Operation Castle. I was attached to the Helicopter Squadron HMR 362. I was stationed on the USS Bairoko for the operation. I came aboard early with other Marines with the squadron equipment. Our berthing space was well forward in the Navagators crew berthing compartment.

I was electronic in the squadron, but for the operation I was assigned to the Tool Room. The Marine who normally had the job was the son of a Polish immigrant to the US just prior to WW2. He was unable to get the required Secret clearence from the FBI.

We supported AEC operations during the test period. In reviewing your website I could not add any thing new about the shots. But I beleive that one of our choppers was taking off from the flight deck and one of the tie downs had not been released. As a result the bird was tipped over on her side and damaged. It caused a stir to flight operations. All hands got out without injury.

A couple of things you may remember: The tapping of quarters with spoons during movies to make them into rings. I remember the movie, " The Glen Miller Story and ring makers; The time they landed the shark on the Hanger Deck.

I remember the shots and how awesome they were.

I have a question. Do you know any website I could contact in reqards to action for problems caused by radiation effects to humans. I have three off spring that have genetic disorders to various degrees. The lesser problems with one born 6 years after Castle.

Is there any consideration of Reunions in reqards the 50 years ago. We saw the biggest H-Bomb explose in the South Pacific or of any reqarding such as Operation Castle?

If you have any Marines in contact with you from Operation Castle, I would appreciate anyone who could get me their email address.
