Hi Keith,

Background at that time, 1953, I was a Sgt. stationed at Camp Pendleton CA. My outfit was Marine Corps Test Unit One we were testing equipment and tactics involving helicopters to be used as assault vehicles. We were involved in that for approximately 6 months.

We were told we were going to Nevada to practice what we were testing with an atomic bomb explosion and our name was change to the 1st Marine Corps Provisional Atomic Brigade.

We went to Desert Rock Nevada. The shot was delayed for five or six days due to the weather conditions . When the shot was done, we were five to seven miles away, in the open. About five to ten minutes after the shot the choppers came in we boarded and assaulted ground zero.

What I'm concerned about now, it seems like this outfit I was with, 1st Marine Provisional did not exist. Any help or direction you can point me in would be greatly appreciated.

See you later Keith and thanks again. Richard.
