Keith,

My name is Victor DeLor and I was Pipefitter 3rd class aboard the USS Boxer during the Marshall Islands testing in 1958.

I was a monitor reader during general quarters and totally topside and exposed to the light and heat and lots of xray from some shots.

The big one detonated from the rocket burned us right through our white dress uniforms as we laid face down on the flight deck with our eyes closed and covered with our arms. I could see through my eye lids and watch the blood flowing in my arm. At midnight, it was brighter than seven suns or any light I had ever experienced. I'm now 62 and in pretty good health so far but I've heard about a lot of less fortunate personnel.
