Hi: Keith:
My name is Clayton B. Crosby E-5 I was on the USS Princeton-LPH-5 at Johnston Island for the test that fall of 1962. I was in E-Division
I was on the flight deck for all the drops or shots. I remember one night they told us to get below asap and we took off at full speed.
We had a divisional party ashore while there. Because I was a non drinker I was on shore patrol that day. They were going to throw the shore patrol in the water and the Divisional Officer said no your are not so he went in in our place.
If I rememder right we had a swim day while there also I could be mistaken on that as it has been a long time now [what] 43 years this month [August].
It was a sight to behold but also the danger that was unvailed in the hole test site. I guess we were all young. I didn't realize what danger we were put in and what the health problems it would cause down the road of life. We were doing it because our country told us to do it just like those before us and after has done.
On one of the pictures on the web page it shows the Princeton and the men standing on the flight deck I was one of them.
I guess I have had no problems as far as I know, that not saying that at some point I won't have some. It was something for this old boy to behold like I have never seen anything like it before nor since and don't care and hope we all don't see that again not for real..
Any old Shipmate.
