Hi Keith,
I was on a LST that landed on shore.
It was in Nov 1945. I had liberty ( shore leave) the second day. Me and
two other sailors hitched a ride in back of an open truck. He drove us
out to the center, where the "A BOMB " was dropped. I saw all the
destruction that it did. We were right in the center. Who knew at that
time about Radiation?
Our Government claims that I was exposed to
1 Rem (I think that's what they called it..) HOW DO THEY KNOW how many
Rems it was at that time. That night I was on guard duty in front of the
ship on land. That's another story!!!! A few months later, I was sent to
an other ship LCT.
On Roi Island I went to see a Doctor because I had eye
problems & headaches. They gave me eye glasses. ( I still have them) When
I was 38 yrs. old, I ended up with Macula degeneration. When you get
older 60 & up you can develop this . I have it in both eyes. Also have
skin caner & Asthma.
Maybe you can help me . Does anybody know anything
about how many Rems that there were in Nagasaki ?
When I first ask the Govt. about this They said I was
never at Nagasaki at that time or the ship. I had to send to the Navy
records for a YES I was there. So ask if anybody Knows and send by
E-MAIL Thanks again Keith
Standing by,
