Keith,
The Eastern Oklahoma Atomic Veterans provide service and assistance to military veterans that were specifically involved with atomic weapons in their military duty both in conflict and weapons testing.
Many Atomic Veterans have suffered from the effects of exposure to ionizing radiation and radioactive dusts which causes many forms of cancer. Many of these cases did not show up until many years after their military duty was over. The VA has been very difficult to convince that many of the veterans contracted the beginnings of the diseases from their military duty.
The EOAV exists to help these veterans. Much activity is still going on in our Congress to bring consideration and justice to these veterans who served their country in these nuclear activities not knowing what was happening to them at the time of their exposure to radioactive materials.
Meetings are held monthly at the American Legion hall in Muskogee on the 3rd Thursday of the month, American Legion Bldg, 4021 West Broadway.
You asked about my atomic service. I witnessed the SHOT-DOG TEST ON
11/1/51. A picture is on the cover of the NAAV Newsletter Winter/Spring 1998.
I was an observer
from Ft. Chaffee, Ark., on assignment as Cadre in the Chemical Warfare
training.
