FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
HAVE JUST BEEN INFORMED BY THE UTAH STATE SENATE LEADERSHIP THAT THE
UTAH SENATE JOINED WITH THE UTAH HOUSE OF REPRESENATIVES TODAY AND HAVE
OFFICIALLY JOINED THE GOVERNOR OF UTAH MIKE LEAVITT AND THE SALT LAKE CITY
MAYOR AND PASSED A RESOLUTION HR-1 DECLARING TOMORROW JANUARY 27, 2001
THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE START OF NEVADA NUCLEAR TESTING AS A "DAY OF
REMEMBERANCE" FOR UTAH COLD WAR NUCLEAR VICTIMS!!!!!!!!
This makes a clean sweep by Downwinders and the region's uranium
miners/suvivors to have their suffering from Cold War related radiation
exposures noted and memorialized on January 27 as a Day of Rememberance.
Kudos to Downwinders' lobbist Steve Erickson and the solid solidarty of
all our regions' victims and victims' organizations for a job well done.
Tomorrow we will rally at the Utah State Capitol at 1:30 to 2:30 and
meet again at the Gould Auditorium at the Marriot Library for a special
showing of Return of Navajo Boy at 3:00 and workshops and discussions.
While we are full of joy at acheiving our goals and for the unity and
solidarity that made it possible. We are also deeply saddened by the
death yesterday of one of the regions' victims' advocates Carol Dewey
who died at her home yesterday of thyroid cancer. You will be in our
hearts tomorrow as we remember all our losses and rejoice together for
those surviving!
