Radiation Warning--
ATTEND (those in the eastern US//dc area)
COMMENT (all of us)
REQUEST EXTENDED COMMENT PERIOD (all)
(1) SEPT 2 & 3 (agenda below) NAS BEIR VII panel has 1st meeting in DC.
[that is National Academy of Sciences NAS panel on the Biological
Effects of Ionizing Radiation BEIR]
Please MARK YOUR CALENDARS!! We NEED TO SHOW UP and GIVE INPUT. [The
industry alerts are already out on their webs and networks.]
The outcome of this panel will drastically impact ALL of our work.
At minimum, we need to make comments in the public comment periods.
Preferably, we can take visible action and push the agenda to allow a
scientist from our perspective to brief the panel for an equal amount of
time (30 minutes-60 minutes) as alloted to the listed presenters.
(2) Public Comments are due on the "revised" panel by AUGUST 30!!
Extension requests and requests for equal time on agenda for critics can
be sent to NAS at
rjostes@nas.edu
Watch for NIRS sign on letter by Friday 8/20. Sign on and forward to
your lists for sign on.
The newest proposed BEIR VII panel has been altered a bit (1 person
removed, 5 added--none of those recommended by the public interest
community); It is still dreadfully skewed toward the nuclear industry.
NAS Agenda follows:
