Right now I'm so angry I could scream. There was absolutely no mention of
the atomic veterans in that letter. Where were these guys when Wellstone and
Evans' bills were introduced? Speaking of which, those bills are now dead in
the water. I have recently spoken with Cong. Evans' office and was told they
were anxious to re-introduce the original Evans bill with the 10 cancers. I
also spoke with Wellstone's office. Samo-samo. No money. I was told that
if they could find the funding they would immediately introduce the
legislation again.
Now this letter from Orrin Hatch, in addition to articles in the L.A.
Times regarding the President's concern regarding the workers in nuclear
facilities and their exposures to beryllium. The president was so concerned
that he wanted immediate action regarding the workers. When asked regarding
radiation, he responded that he needed another study. I believe I emailed
that piece of s... to you.
I once testified at a hearing held by Hatch in Salt Lake City. He
graciously included the atomic veterans as well as the downwinders, testsite
workers, uranium miners, et al. As soon as I walked out of the hearing room
I was handed a news release stating that Hatch had withdrawn the Atomic
Veterns from his bill. It didn't pass anyway; however, that was his opinion
then, and obviously still is, that the atomic veterans are beyond his help
since probably very few of them are voters in his state. grrrrrrr. : (
