Keith
I was aboard the USS Curtis-AV4 as a Marine Security.
As you know there
were four shots. During one shot, I remember an aircraft flying through one.
Then another set off a rain cloud and it rained all over the ship. We had to
scrub it down.
I don't remember which shot it was, but they had tanks, armored vehicles and
buildings erected to test the effects on them. As soon as it settled a
little a couple of AEC Civilians and about five of us went ashore and waded
through all that stuff while it was still glowing and smoking. We were not
well informed about radiation exposure and I don't really think they knew
what they were doing.
A short while back I received a questionnaire and joined the NAAV. I sent an
email later asking them about a public law they mentioned, concerning a
physical all Atomic Vets are supposed to have. I've never heard from them. Do
you know anything about it?
I've had numerous cancers and growths removed from my body. I've mentioned
that I am an Atomic Veteran to VA doctors and civilian Doctors and they just
shrug their shoulders. If I knew anything about that Public Law I could
mention it to them.
After Greenhouse I was sent to Korea, wounded in action 25 July 1953. Quite
a few of the Curtis Marines were killed in Korea.
Will appreciate any info on that Public Law.
Thanks Keith
