March 1998 -- May 1998

May 22,1998--Franklin Rankin was at at Johnson and Christmas Islands on the USS Rowan, DD782 during Operation Dominic.

May 22,1998--Wayne McCormick served as an Illustrator attached to Headquarters, Joint Task Force Seven, Operation Hardtack 1.

May 22,1998--Bert Wilson EN3 on the USS Yorktown during Shot Swordfish, Operation Dominic

May 22,1998--George E. Briggs a Radio Operator on the USS Ajax during Operation Crossroads.

May 22,1998--Jack G. Childs (PA )was a Marine, assigned to HMR 363, as part of the advance party, for Operation Redwing.

May 20, 1998-- Nils Pearson was on duty aboard the USS Lipan (ATF-85) during Operation Ivy.

May 6-20, 1998--Activated the Operation Ivy section with 28 photos of the operation.

May 6-20, 1998--Posted 20 cloud track maps for the explosions of Operation Plumbbob.

May 6, 1998--Darel Brower was at Diablo, Priscilla and Hood detonations during Operation Plumbbob.

May 5, 1998--Bill Vaughn sent 3 great photos taken during Operation Dominic.

May 1, 1998--Leroy Peffer served on the USS Curtiss on Operations Castle, Wigwam, Redwing, and Hardtack.

April 29, 1998--Andrew M. Schmalen on his duty on theUSS Independence at Crossroads.

April 29, 1998--Keith Kassel stationed aboard the USS Catamount describes his duty at Operation Redwing.

April 28, 1998--Don Norton helped clean up the radioactive mess at Eniwetok in 1978.

April 26, 1998--Richard Flory (California), watched the Redwing detonations from the USS Navasota AO 106.

April 24, 1998 From Gary Anderson (Redwing) see the USS Estes, Plan of the Day for Tuesday, 12 June 1956. The preparations, as far as I can tell are for Shot Flathead.(Ed.)

April 22, 1998--Gerald Cetto talks about his duty on the USS James E. Kyes at Operation Redwing. Jerry also sent us the DNA Fact Sheets for the 1956 Operation.

April 18, 1998--Bill Vaughn sent us a description of the activities at Christmas Island during Operation Dominic.

April 18, 1998--Howard (Bud) Burke, added letters home from Burke at while he was at Crossroads. The envelopes carried the Atom Bomb Test stamp cancellation.

Mike Jenkins sent us some documents about Operation Hardtack 1, 1958, and we have posted them from his page. Hardtack I Shots List and the List of Ships participating in Operation Hardtack have also been added.

April 6, 1998--Mildred McGirt Dudgeon a Navy Lieutenant, served as a nurse aboard the USS Bountiful during WW II and was at Bikini for both shots of Operation Crossroads.

March 31, 1998--Charles Decker also serving aboard the USS Bountiful managed to save letters and an illustration that he sent home from Operation Crossroads.

March 31, 1998--Durwin Rogers Boatswains Mate Third Class writes of his duty at Operation Castle.

March 29, 1998--We added more than 20 photos from the Crossroads video tape. Click on the Atomic Veterans Photo Album on the Crossroads page.

March 29, 1998--Henry Dittmer, medic, visited Hiroshima in Oct. of 1945. After our telephone interview, he sent us five photographs taken during his duty, and we and added them to the web site.

March 24, 1998--Henry Dittmer phoned us about the recent meeting of atomic veterans, and while we were talking on the phone we asked for a description of his duty at Hiroshima in 1945. C.C. Fielder and L. Davis sent us emails describing their duty at Operation Dominic. We posted another excellent contribution from Prof. R.V. Fisher about his experience during Operation Crossroads. We received an email note from another Crossroads vet Charles Prange.

March 16, 1998--Posted Stan Alsing's description of his duty at Operation Dominic.

March 12, 1998--Posted Fred Herschler's excellent story Last Trip of the Nagato in Operation Crossroads.

March 12, 1998--Posted email from Roz Brown a veteran of Operation Dominic I. Posted email from Roger Allen a Dominic I veteran, from Bend, Ore. Also, posted an email from Tom Taylor a veteran of Operation Dominic. Mike Jenkins, a veteran of Operation Hardtack wrote to us and we posted his email.
