Dear Keith,
Again I find myself writting about myself and some of the things
I saw and did. My name is Guy Alewine, 443 Stagecoach Rd, Henderson, NC 27537.
I was in Eniwetok the middle of 1957 to same 1958. I was in the Supply Sqdn. of the 4951st. I
saw several shots under water and above. I can't remember wareing long pants
or long sleeve shirts. One shot that is real in my mind today, was one Sunday
at around 10am or 12 noon. It was one hell of a bang. The fireball climbed to
above 50,000 ft. within about a minute. All we had on was short pants, we turned
our backs as per orders. All I can say is that it got very hot. Then the shock wave came
at the island. We were then given orders to stand on tip toes and open our mouths
real wide. We thought the Rock was going to turn over. Then some small shots and
under water shots and even some shots they did not tell us about.
I was a
Staff Sgt, had a nick name of ALROD, Painer gave me that name. I just found that he
was killed about 10 years ago. He was a tent mate along with Red, Bart, (THE
BARBER) and Majors. I understand he passed away maybe 2 years ago.
Keith, I have e
mailed all the names you sent me. Red and I have talked after 46 years. Man that
sure did make me feel good. To make a long story short, after I became an AF
COMMANDO, I went to Vietman, came back in 1968 and then hung up my chute and
retired later in life.
I came down with lung cancer as a result of agent orange. At
present I am 100 percent disabled. I did lose a son and his son to cancer but
can't find out if there is any connections or not. Keith, thank you for letting
me tell my story.
Hey, if any one out was there, email me.
Thanks Keith (ALROD)
Guy Alewine,
Henderson, NC.
