Lost Aurorae. While looking through these beautiful auroral images (via Ultima Thule), from the sorts of places one would expect - Iceland, Alaska - I noticed on the fourth page a thumbnail and link to photos taken on the shore of Saylorville Lake. Saylorville Lake is just south of here. Damn, damn, damn. How did I miss this? Auroral displays in Iowa. On December 14. And I was actually keeping an eye on the sky around then in hopes of catching some Geminids. Which I did not see, either. Lovely images, though. Take a look (scroll down the page a bit.)

That was nice color in those aurorae, too. I've never seen them, and I'm unlikely to down here.
