And the saga continues... The Nez Perce Tribe, the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, and the Yakama Indian Nation are appealing the ruling against their claims in the Kennewick Man case - using the same arguments that were rejected in previous appeals. This time around, they are invoking ARPA and NHPA, rather than NAGPRA, to advance the argument that, although all previous courts have decided that the Kennewick individual has no demonstrable ancestral relation to them, they should be allowed to dictate the terms of study because he is their ancestor.

UPDATE: Meanwhile - next week scientists will submit their study plan for review by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Oh, boy, a chance to ask a question that has been burning in my mind for ages: How do you pronounce "Nez Perce"? In French, or in English?

I avoid pronouncing it, as I want to say "nay persay" and would feel wrong no matter how it came out. I believe standard usage is the Englished version.
