"You traitorous, black-hearted, simpering bitches" Just to keep my blood pressure down, I tried to avoid the 9/11-related "concern" about the public's negative attitude toward the media - actually a self-congratulatory exercise involving sniffing at presumptuous Americans' lack of deference toward their journalistic betters. But he-who-is-not-a-pundit found some fresh meat, and produced an apt and entertaining rant. A snippet:

It's not "humanity" we want. I don't care if the news comes from a goddamn robot. I just don't want to watch some distracted fucker trying to calculate ad revenue in his head while he reads carefully-spun text from the teleprompter.

Here's what we want: we want the news. Not a bunch of splutter and mist. Not some jerk in a suit acting human. Not the marketing-department-approved revision. Not the shrink-wrapped and sugar-coated political agenda. Not novocaine for our owies and boo-boos. Just tell us what the fuck is happening. Who-what-when-where-why. We can figure out for ourselves how we feel about it.

Check out Ananova for a VNR (Virtual News Reader). Not a robot, but the next best thing.

The only minor quibble I would take with that statement is trusting the newsreader with the 'why' of any items. It used to be one could trust them with that aspect, too, but not anymore!
