These are instructions for configuring Windows ME to connect to SpiritOne. Microsoft's Internet Connection Wizard assumes that you will be using Internet Explorer to browse the World Wide Web and Outlook Express to send and receive email. These instructions will allow you to connect to the Internet regardless of which web browser or email client you use, but if you do use another program to browse the Web or receive email, you will need to configure it separately after completing the Windows ME setup below.

  1. Click the Start button, then click Run.
  2. Type inetwiz, then click OK. This will start the Internet Connection Wizard.
  3. Select I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a Local Area Network (LAN).
  4. Click Next.
  5. On the "Setting up your Internet connection" screen, select I connect through a phone line and a modem.
  6. Click Next.
  7. On the "Internet account connection information" screen, type the correct phone number for your area code and city, found on the right sidebar on this page.
  8. Click Next.
  9. On the "Internet Account Logon Information" screen:
    • In the User Name field, enter your full SpiritOne or Aracnet email address in all lower-case letters.
    • In the Password field, enter your password.
  10. Click Next.
  11. In the Connection Name field, remove what is there and type SpiritOne.
  12. Click Next.
  13. On the "Set Up Your Internet Mail Account" screen, click Yes.
  14. Click Next.
  15. You may or may not see a screen asking whether you would like to create a new Internet mail account or use an existing Internet mail account. If you do, select Create a new Internet mail account.
  16. Click Next.
  17. In the Display Name field, enter your name the way you would like it to appear when you send e-mail.
  18. Click Next.
  19. In the E-mail address field, enter your SpiritOne email address.
  20. Click Next.
  21. On the "E-mail server names" screen:
    • For My incoming mail server is a [    ] server, make sure POP3 is selected.
    • For both the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server and Outgoing mail (SMTP) server, enter the relevant mail server from the sidebar on the right.
  22. Click Next.
  23. On the "Internet Mail Logon" screen:
    • Account name will already be filled in based on the email address you entered. If your login name is different from the first part of your email address, remove what is there and type your login name.
    • For Password, enter your email account password.
    • If you would like to have Outlook Express remember your passsword, check the box labeled Remember password.
    • Click Next.
  24. Uncheck the box labeled "To connect to the Internet immediately, select this box and then click Finish."
  25. Click Finish.
  26. Now, click your Start button, click Settings, then click Dial-Up Networking.
  27. In Dial-Up Networking, double-click on the SpiritOne icon.
  28. Click the Properties button.
  29. Click on the Networking tab.
  30. Uncheck the box labeled Enable software compression.
  31. Click OK.
  32. You're done! Your computer is now configured to connect to SpiritOne.
