Hello Keith,

I was stationed on Kwajalein (Kwaj) during Operation Ivy with MATS VR8 Detatchment from August 1952-December 1952. There were 12 or 15 of us sailors there and were in a quonset hut with air force personnel.

The purpose of our being there was to service MATS aircraft enroute to Honolulu or Tokyo. I somehow was volunterred to pull guard duty on one of the B-29's that was with the Joint Task Force 132. This aircraft was fitted with many movie cameras. This lasted until after the H-Bomb was dropped.

When the aircraft returned from its mission I assisted the crew in taking the film cannisters and loading them on a jeep to go to who knows where. One more night of guard duty then I went back to my regular assignments with VR8.

That particular time was really a sight to be seen especially for an 18 year old.
