Subject: Xmas Island Test
I was on USS Halsey Powell DD 686 at tests at Xmas Island 1962. I don't know if you know how to get a copy of all the papers we signed before we went to Xmas Island. I can't get them, they never told us what we put our name to, just lined us up and said sign. I
would like to know now.
My duty was ships store. I remember we patroled the test area to keep
other ships out. We would see USSR ships often. We played a message over a
loud speaker to them. I don't know what the message was, it must have told them
they were in a test area. We were told before bomb blast to go inside the ship, close all port holes and hatches and not to look at the blast.
We had film badges on that they renewed about one time a week. We stayed on water hours alot. We never had water for a good bath. It was hot even at night and we could not take pictures.
Thanks
